Keeping up with the speed of change

The pace at which new products launch, policies change and fresh strategies and workflows have to take hold, has risen sharply. L&D can barely keep up with meeting that demand centrally.

Back in 2022, the average employee already went through ten planned changes, according to a Gartner study cited by Harvard Business Review. In 2016 it was just two. And that data is already four years old.¹

We have been seeing this trend in conversations with our customers for a long time. One thing is clear: it cannot go on like this. At Articuland in Orlando this September, Articulate introduced a product that helps here: Frontline.

Frontline: built by Articulate for teams beyond L&D

In short, Frontline is a new part of Articulate's learning intelligence platform. It lets teams across an organization turn scattered documents, presentations and PDFs into training kits, with no L&D background needed and right when the need appears. For the world of L&D, this is a big step forward: teams can build their own training faster, while L&D steps out of the capacity spiral.

Because when L&D no longer has to turn every PDF into a course, when small update requests stop landing on the instructional designers' desks all day and when producing e-learning no longer fills every hour, room opens up for what really matters today: building the instructional and strategic foundations for training at scale. And this is exactly where L&D can become a central pillar in every change process.

Frontline is designed for teams outside L&D. Articulate 360 AI is the core solution for L&D professionals and Nova powers both products.
How Articulate's new Frontline product works

Frontline runs on credits. A single subscription can include unlimited individual seats. That sets it apart from Articulate 360 AI, the toolkit L&D professionals have known for years. As the need arises, credits are used to build training kits that can hold guides, quick references, interactive videos, scenarios or training decks. The starting point is a simple prompt or material you already have. Nova, the built-in AI agent, then suggests how the learning could be structured, in a way anyone can follow. Best of all, Nova can roll out updates everywhere from a single prompt and it builds on many years of learning-science.

Where does L&D fit in?

So, what does this mean for L&D experts in practice? Can knowledge really transfer and stick when every department builds and updates its own training? It can, when L&D takes on a more strategic role and defines the guidelines and standards for training. L&D teams have experience in building courses, a sharp eye for telling effective learning from ineffective learning and, with it, exactly the expertise needed to scale learning company-wide. And they also bring the judgement to make sense of AI-generated content and quality-check it.

A process with L&D at the control centre could look like this:
  • L&D sets the instructional approach, the strategy and the best practice.
  • Feedback, analysis and rollout also sit centrally with L&D.
  • It stays clear which training matters company-wide and which content the expert teams can take ownership of.
  • L&D works centrally with the full Articulate 360 AI toolkit.
  • Expert teams use Frontline, accessible without L&D knowledge and AI-supported, to turn files into effective training kits.

When L&D function positions itself strategically in the company, with the right tool setup and its huge pool of experience, it becomes essential as a steady source of knowledge people can access quickly and from everywhere in a business world that is changing at speed. That is when L&D becomes the backbone of every change process. Because the most successful change efforts are the ones employees help shape. Applied and implemented well, Frontline can add real value right here: through decentralization and involvement. And involving people in shaping change is a proven lever for reducing change fatigue.²

This will not happen overnight. But in our conversations with customers, we already see how much this transformation can be worth. Articulate brought some of these stories to the keynote stage in Orlando. If you would like to get together with your local L&D community and learning experts from across Europe, to discuss what this shift means for L&D and to share experiences, join us at our live events: Masters of Articulate, in Paris for the first time this year and, after last year's success, returning to Köln. In dedicated sessions, learning experts will also look at Frontline and how L&D and expert teams work together.
