Onboarding for handball heroes

Background
Before every handball championship, hundreds of volunteers from across Sweden come together – people from different backgrounds and walks of life, united by a shared love for handball. During the tournament, these volunteers handle everything from welcoming the crowd and answering questions about nearby bus stops to knowing how to act in the event of a terror threat.
To help everyone feel ready for their task, the Swedish Handball Federation partnered with TicTac Learn to create a digital onboarding programme. The programme was designed as a shared starting point to strengthen the team and work for everyone – no matter their experience, role or digital confidence.
The challenge
Creating training that works for such a diverse group while meeting the federation’s high standards for quality and accessibility is no small task. On top of that, the federation needs to track completions and ensure certification. The vision of the programme is that every volunteer arrives at the championship fully prepared and with the same essential knowledge.

The solution

To meet the content and reporting requirements, the volunteer training was produced in Articulate Rise and delivered via TicTac Learn’s own platform, Skillhabit.
The course was structured into five modules, taking around one hour to complete. Each module follows a clear visual thread, enhanced by inspiring imagery from both women’s and men’s handball.
To boost motivation, the content was infused with a sense of fun, team spirit and pride – highlighting what it means to be part of something bigger. Participants could test their knowledge of their favourite sport while learning about safety, teamwork and being a supportive colleague, through interactive exercises and reflection questions.

The result
The result is a safe, accessible and engaging onboarding experience for volunteers – and a solution that gives the Swedish Handball Federation full control from start to certification:
- Invitations are sent automatically via email.
- Completions can be tracked in real time and reminders sent out.
- Volunteers receive their digital certificate immediately after passing the knowledge test.
Thanks to this digital approach, the federation can ensure quality even before the first whistle blows. Now all that’s left is to keep fingers crossed that Team Sweden delivers when it’s time for the 2026 Men’s European Championship.

We worked hard to create a course that suits all our volunteers. We wanted it to be inspiring and useful in their day-to-day work while also clearly communicating our values and expectations. TicTac Learn was a great partner in that process – fast, responsive and easy to collaborate with. The result looks great, feels motivating and is something we’re really proud of.
